Rabies vaccination as an entry requirement
In short
Many destinations set rabies vaccination rules for arriving cats and dogs. The rules differ by country, by species and by where the pet has been, so each authority is shown on its own.
Key points
- Cats and dogs can have different rules at the same destination. In the United States, CDC's rule for cats is not the same as its rules for dogs.
- Which vaccine your own pet needs, and when, is a question for your vet.
Great Britain
United Kingdom (Great Britain): Rabies vaccine from 12 weeks
Your vet needs proof the animal is at least 12 weeks old before giving the rabies vaccine. [GOV.UK: Bring your pet dog, cat or ferret to Great Britain]
United Kingdom (Great Britain): Wait at least 21 full days
Travel no earlier than 21 full days after the first rabies vaccination (or the last dose of the primary course). The day after vaccination counts as day 1; some vaccines need longer. [GOV.UK: Bring your pet dog, cat or ferret to Great Britain]
